Travel Guide: Visiting Crazy Cancun

This was my very first time to Cancun and I went for a full 7 days, 6 nights. I flew out of Clevland into Cancun International Airport with VivaAerobus. The flight was short and smooth, the seating was uncomfortable but honestly not the end of the world. Not much more to say about the airline.

Cancun is known for its white-sand beaches and bright turquoise waters. Aside from that, it's a popular destination for lively nightlife and spring breakers. A short bus or drive from the Hotel Zone are some very historic ruins as well as beautiful cenotes. Looking for a different adventure? Take a ferry to Isla Mujeres and explore the lively island. There are so many more things you can do in Cancun and I will say I did not do nearly enough of them.

Cancun is the only city in Mexico that was chosen from a computer, based on average temperatures and accessibility for a resort center.

The Hotel

I decided since it was my birthday week, I would go the all-inclusive resort route with some exploring sprinkled in there. I do not regret this decision but would not do it again. The Hotel Zone of Cancun is oddly reminiscent of San Diego...I do not know why I would travel out of the United States to only feel like I am still in the United States. Music that the resort chose to play sounded like I took a time machine back to the early 2000s. Not bad, but laying on the beach and vibing out to Eminem's "The Real Slim Shady" isn't what I imagined when I booked a trip to Mexico. The room was overall very clean and when we got into the room they had a bottle of champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries. So sweet!

Places to Eat

I ended up going to all of the restaurants at the resort over the week and here are my favorites along with my thoughts on the other ones. The Cafeteria feeling 'Paradise' – Buffet restaurant offering international cuisine. Serves breakfast and lunch. The Snack Bar - A favorite late-night place for melted cheese wiz and tortilla chips Sushi at 'Sumo' – Restaurant offering Asian cuisine. Serves dinner across the hotel, entrance is the 'Old Barn' – Restaurant offering international cuisine. Serves dinner and lots of taxidermy pieces. Overlooking Ocean is 'Pier 12' – Restaurant offering international cuisine. Serves lunch and dinner. A favorite for me, the food was good and if you go around sunset on the balcony, it's beautiful. Birthday Dinner was at 'Shangri-La' – Restaurant offering fusion cuisine. Serves dinner. It was interesting and I needed more food afterward.
